1. Mineral symbiosis characteristics of barite
Barite (BaSO₄) is a sulfate mineral that is often formed in low-temperature hydrothermal veins and coexists with a variety of minerals. According to the type of ore deposit, its associated minerals can be divided into the following categories:
Sulfide minerals: such as galena (PbS), sphalerite (ZnS), chalcopyrite (CuFeS₂) and pyrite (FeS₂), which are common in hydrothermal deposits.
Non-metallic minerals: including fluorite (CaF₂), quartz (SiO₂), calcite (CaCO₃), etc., mostly found in sedimentary or volcanic sedimentary deposits.
Iron oxides: such as hematite (Fe₂O₃) and magnetite (Fe₃O₄), need to be separated by magnetic separation.
Clay or sandy impurities: residual slope deposits are often mixed with clay, rock debris, etc.

2. Industrial extraction method of barite
The extraction of barite needs to select a combination of processes according to the type, grade and associated minerals of the ore, which is mainly divided into two categories: physical beneficiation and chemical purification:
2.1 Physical beneficiation method
Hand selection method: suitable for high-grade (BaSO₄>92%) lump ore, which is directly used after manual selection, but the efficiency is low and the waste of resources is serious.
Gravity separation method: using density difference (barite density 4.2-4.6g/cm³), through jig, shaking table and other equipment separation, the concentrate grade can reach more than 88%.
Flotation method: for fine-grained embedded or complex associated minerals, anionic collectors (such as fatty acid salts) are used to preferentially float barite under pH 8-10 conditions.
Magnetic separation method: remove ferromagnetic impurities and improve the whiteness of the concentrate.
2.2 Chemical purification method
Calcination method: high temperature decomposition of organic matter and volatile impurities, suitable for improving whiteness.
Acid leaching: Use hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid to dissolve carbonate impurities.
2.3 Combined process
For complex ores (such as sulfide ore-barite symbiotic ore), the combined process of "gravity separation-flotation" or "magnetic separation-flotation" is often used.

3. Technology development trend
With the reduction of high-grade resources, flotation and combined processes have become the mainstream. At the same time, deep processing technologies such as ultra-fine grinding and bleaching have promoted the application of barite in high value-added fields such as chemical industry and medicine.
