As a critical piece of grinding equipment in industrial production, the choice of drive system for a ball mill directly impacts its operational efficiency and maintenance costs. Among the various drive configurations, the belt drive is widely adopted due to its simple structure and excellent shock-absorbing capabilities.

Belt-driven ball mills are primarily used in production processes that require high grinding fineness but involve relatively stable loads. For instance, in the raw meal preparation stage of cement manufacturing, these mills grind raw materials—such as limestone and clay—into fine powder suitable for calcination; their smooth startup characteristics help minimize the impact on the power grid. In the mineral processing industry, the equipment is frequently employed for regrinding operations following intermediate crushing, further reducing ore particle size to facilitate subsequent flotation or magnetic separation. Additionally, belt-driven ball mills deliver effective grinding results in the processing of non-metallic minerals, such as quartz and feldspar.

Key advantages include the belt's ability to slip under overload conditions—thereby protecting the motor and transmission components—as well as lower installation precision requirements and ease of maintenance. However, given that its transmission efficiency is slightly lower than that of gear drives, it is best suited for applications involving low-to-medium power and continuous, stable operation. Consequently, the belt-driven ball mill remains an economical and practical choice across industries such as construction materials, chemicals, and metallurgy.
